Sound Character

The Luxman SQ-38u offers a smooth, dimensional, and naturally expressive presentation associated with a well-designed EL34 tube amplifier.

The midrange is rich and well developed, giving vocals, piano, strings, guitars, and acoustic instruments natural body and presence. High frequencies remain refined and open, while bass is full and controlled when the amplifier is matched with suitable speakers.

Important Vintage Audio Note

This Luxman SQ-38u is a Japanese domestic AC 100V unit.

Do not connect it directly to a 120V or 230V power outlet. A suitable high-quality step-down transformer with adequate capacity is required when operating the amplifier outside Japan.

The SQ-38u is a vacuum tube amplifier and generates substantial heat during normal use. Do not block the upper, lower, or rear ventilation openings, and do not place other equipment directly on top of the amplifier.

The amplifier uses a time-muting circuit, so sound is not produced immediately after power-on. Keep the volume low until the startup muting period has ended.

Use speakers rated between 4 and 16 ohms when operating one pair. When using Speaker A and B simultaneously, use speakers rated at 8 ohms or higher for each pair.

Because the amplifier weighs approximately 44.1 lbs and contains glass vacuum tubes, careful two-person handling is recommended.
