Up for sale is a classic pair of ADS L1290/2 Series 2 three-way floorstanding loudspeakers, a refined vintage speaker system from ADS (Analog & Digital Systems).

Dating from approximately the mid-1980s / circa 1986, the L1290/2 Series 2 uses a 3-way, 4-driver acoustic-suspension design with dual Stifflite woofers, a 2-inch soft-dome midrange, and a 0.75-inch soft-dome tweeter.

The rear labels identify these speakers as 8-ohm nominal systems with 300 watts maximum program power, and confirm that they were made in the USA.

Sound Character

The ADS L1290/2 uses dedicated drivers for the low, midrange, and high-frequency ranges, with a sealed acoustic-suspension cabinet designed for controlled low-frequency response.

The dual Stifflite woofers provide strong bass capability, while the dedicated soft-dome midrange covers the critical vocal and instrumental range. A 0.75-inch soft-dome tweeter handles high-frequency reproduction with the smooth character associated with classic ADS designs.

The result is a balanced full-range presentation well suited to rock, jazz, vocals, classical recordings, acoustic music, and other demanding program material.

This ADS L1290/2 speaker pair presents very well overall, with attractive walnut veneer and the original-style black perforated metal grilles.
