PRODUCT OVERVIEW

The Bose 901 Series VI is Bose’s Direct/Reflecting loudspeaker, with nine 4-1/2-inch full-range drivers in each cabinet – one facing forward and eight facing the rear wall to combine direct and reflected sound.

The 901 is designed to be used with the 901 Series VI Active Equalizer, which is connected between the amplifier and the speakers. This listing is sold as a complete set: the pair of speakers, the matching Active Equalizer and a pair of tulip pedestal stands, as shown in the photos.

This set has been inspected, serviced, and tested by HQaudios. The photos show the actual speakers, equalizer and stands you will receive.

HQAUDIOS RESTORATION & TESTING

Before Restoration

This Bose 901 Series VI pair was carefully inspected upon arrival to evaluate its mechanical, electrical, and cosmetic condition.

Each cabinet, cone, surround, and spider was checked for originality and for glue joints that had loosened or shifted with age. Every driver was tested by hand for voice-coil rub – a scratching noise or a stiff, binding cone indicates a shifted or heat-damaged voice coil. The DC resistance of every driver was checked against its nominal impedance. The 901 has no passive crossover network inside the cabinet (equalization is handled by the external Active Equalizer), so the capacitor check (within 10% tolerance) did not apply; the internal wiring and terminals were inspected.

Inspection Findings: All drivers were working well and were in good condition. The front grilles were old and had pilled (fuzzy) fabric, and the rear grilles of both speakers were old and torn. The plastic driver trim rings on both speakers had glue residue and were dirty. One fastening nut was missing from the bottom of a speaker.

The inspection results were used to determine the work required for this specific pair.

During Restoration

Based on the inspection results, this Bose 901 Series VI pair was serviced according to HQaudios’ technical standards while preserving its original engineering and voicing.

Rear Grilles: The old, torn rear grilles were replaced on both speakers.

Front Grilles: The front grilles were treated to remove the pilled fabric.

Driver Trim Rings: The plastic driver trim rings on both speakers were cleaned and repainted.

Rear Panels: Glue residue was cleaned from the rear of both speakers.

Bottom Hardware: The missing fastening hardware on the bottom of one speaker was replaced.

Drivers: All drivers retain their original cones and diaphragms, which are in good condition.

Cleaning & Detailing: The drivers and terminals were cleaned, and the cabinets and grilles were cleaned and detailed.

After Restoration / Final Testing

Once service was completed, the pair underwent comprehensive testing under real operating conditions.

Phase Check: Driver polarity was verified using a phase-reversal check to ensure both speakers play in correct phase.

Listening Test: The pair underwent an extended real-world listening test with a wide range of music to confirm dynamics, tonal balance, and stereo imaging.

Final QC: Every pair must pass HQaudios’ final quality-control check before it is approved for sale.
