About This Pair

Offered here is a pair of Tannoy Cheviot floorstanding loudspeakers fitted with Tannoy’s HPD 315A 12-inch Dual Concentric system.

The HPD 315A combines a direct-radiating low-frequency section and high-frequency compression driver concentrically within the same assembly, providing the point-source-style architecture associated with classic Tannoy Dual Concentric loudspeakers.

This pair uses a twin ducted-port bass-reflex enclosure and includes the model’s front-accessible Energy and Roll-Off high-frequency controls.

Rear labels on this actual pair identify the system as Cheviot – Type HPD 315A, rated at 60 watts / 8 ohms and manufactured in the United Kingdom.

Why the Tannoy Cheviot Is Notable

The Cheviot is part of Tannoy’s classic HPD-era domestic loudspeaker range and uses the company’s well-known Dual Concentric architecture in a relatively compact floorstanding cabinet.

The 12-inch HPD 315A system places the high-frequency compression driver concentrically with the low-frequency cone, allowing both frequency sections to operate from a closely aligned acoustic center.

Adjustable Energy and Roll-Off controls provide additional high-frequency tuning for different rooms, placements, and listening preferences.

HQaudios Inspection, Service & Testing

Before Service

We inspected both Tannoy Cheviot speakers before service, including the HPD 315A driver systems, crossover and control sections, speaker terminals, cabinet surfaces, grilles, and general operating condition.

Our inspection also evaluated overall acoustic operation and the condition of the bass, midrange, and treble reproduction from both speakers.

During Service

Our technicians serviced this pair according to the condition identified during inspection.

We cleaned and detailed the cabinets, front baffles, grille areas, control areas, rear connections, and accessible speaker components.

We also checked the HPD 315A driver operation, crossover/control operation, speaker terminals, and connection integrity.

Final Testing

After service, we tested both speakers together under normal playback conditions.

• Overall acoustic quality checked

• Bass output checked

• Midrange reproduction checked

• Treble reproduction checked

• Energy control operation checked

• Roll-Off control operation checked

• Speaker terminal connections checked

• Left/right consistency evaluated

Final quality-control testing rated overall acoustic quality, bass, midrange, and treble performance as Good.

Technical Condition

Both speakers have been inspected and tested by HQaudios and were evaluated together under normal stereo playback conditions.

The HPD 315A driver systems, crossover/control sections, Energy and Roll-Off controls, and speaker connections were checked for proper operation.

No parts required replacement on this pair.

Sound Character

In our listening evaluation, this Cheviot pair delivered the coherent presentation associated with Tannoy’s Dual Concentric architecture.

The 12-inch low-frequency section provides substantial scale and weight, while the integrated high-frequency compression driver contributes clarity and presence through the upper range.

The Energy and Roll-Off controls allow additional adjustment of the high-frequency balance to suit room placement and listening preference.

Cosmetic Condition

This pair presents in very good vintage cosmetic condition, with age-related wear visible on close inspection.

The wood-veneer cabinets, black front baffles, grille areas, control sections, and rear panels present well overall.

Light scratches and other normal vintage marks may remain on the cabinet surfaces, including the top, bottom, and side panels.

Please review all listing photographs carefully, as they show the actual pair being offered and form an important part of the cosmetic-condition description.
