Sound & Recording Character

The GX-630D-SS combines the wide-bandwidth performance of a large-reel GX machine with true multichannel recording flexibility.

At 7.5 ips, the deck is specified for a frequency response of 30 Hz – 21 kHz, supporting detailed high-frequency extension and strong transient reproduction. At 3.75 ips, it provides longer recording time while retaining useful bandwidth for extended program material.

The separate GX record and playback heads support tape/source monitoring, while the Quadra-Sync system allows previously recorded tracks to be monitored through the record-head path during overdubbing. This eliminates the normal record-to-playback head delay and keeps new material synchronized with existing tracks.

GX Glass & Crystal Ferrite Heads

The GX-630D-SS uses dedicated GX record and playback heads built with Akai’s Glass & Crystal Ferrite technology, developed for high wear resistance and stable magnetic performance over long service life.

Quadra-Sync

Quadra-Sync allows previously recorded tracks to be monitored through the record head while a new track is recorded. Because the monitored and newly recorded tracks use the same head position, the normal physical delay between record and playback heads is removed, keeping overdubbed material synchronized.

3-Motor Direct-Drive Transport

The transport uses one CPG AC servo motor for direct capstan drive and two eddy-current outer-rotor motors for reel drive, giving the capstan and reel tables dedicated motor systems.
