About This Receiver

Offered here is a professionally restored Sansui 9090 AM/FM stereo receiver, one of Sansui’s large-format receivers from the mid-1970s and a highly desirable model from the classic receiver era.

Rated at 110 watts per channel into 8 ohms, both channels driven, the 9090 combines substantial amplifier output with a full-featured AM/FM tuner, three-band tone controls, multiple tape and auxiliary connections, and support for three speaker systems.

This unit has been restored and fully tested by our in-house HQaudios technical team. The Walnut wood case shown in the photos is included, and the receiver is backed by our 1-Year HQaudios Technical Warranty.

Professional Restoration & Testing

Before Restoration

This Sansui 9090 arrived in aged, non-optimal operating condition after decades of previous use and storage. The chassis and boards showed accumulated dust, several lamps were no longer working, controls and switches showed oxidation-related noise, and the rear speaker-terminal hardware was damaged.

Bench inspection identified service needs in the power supply, power-amplifier stage, and preamplifier section. The cabinet, tuner, controls, connections, illumination system, and rear hardware were also evaluated before work began.

During Restoration

The power supply, power amplifier, and preamplifier sections were repaired and serviced according to the condition of this specific unit. Multiple electrolytic capacitors and transistors were replaced per our service record.

• 5 x 470uF / 100V electrolytic capacitors replaced
• 20 x 2SC1815 transistors replaced
• 10 x 100uF / 25V electrolytic capacitors and 4 x 2SC1115 transistors replaced
• Failed dial and indicator lamps replaced
• FM stereo indicator lamp serviced / replaced as required
• Input jacks, switches, potentiometers, and push-buttons cleaned and treated
• Rear antenna assembly serviced
• Damaged spring-clip speaker terminals upgraded to modern binding posts
• Chassis, boards, faceplate, and wood case thoroughly cleaned and detailed
• Walnut wood case professionally refinished

The Sansui 9090 delivers the full-bodied, dynamic presentation associated with Sansui’s large 1970s receivers, with strong bass authority, generous headroom, and flexible tonal adjustment through its three-band tone-control system. This receiver presents in Very Good to Excellent restored vintage cosmetic condition, with light age-related wear remaining in a few areas as shown in the listing photos.

Professional Packing & Shipping

This Sansui 9090 weighs approximately 51 lbs before packing and will be professionally prepared for shipment.

Reinforced protection will be used around the faceplate, dial glass, knobs, wood case, cabinet corners, ventilation area, and rear connections. Heavy-duty packing materials will be used to reduce movement and protect the receiver during transit.
