HQaudios Restoration & Testing Process

Before Restoration

• After decades of service, the Yamaha CR-2020 required a complete inspection of its power supply, amplifier section, preamplifier, tuner, protection circuitry, and control circuits before restoration.

• HQaudios carefully evaluated the output stage, driver boards, tuner performance, switches, controls, relays, connectors, and power supply to identify aging components that could affect reliability and audio performance.

• All major circuit boards were inspected for deteriorated transistors, aging electrolytic capacitors, solder integrity, and overall operating condition prior to restoration.

During Restoration

• Based on the inspection results, the Yamaha CR-2020 was professionally restored while preserving its original circuitry and sonic character.

• The protection circuit was serviced by replacing four 2SC2383 transistors, restoring stable protection operation and improving long-term reliability.

• Aging electrolytic capacitors in the power supply were replaced, including 1000µF / 63V capacitors (3 pcs) and 100µF / 25V capacitors (2 pcs), helping improve power supply stability and reduce electrical noise.

• Internal circuit boards, solder joints, switches, controls, and electrical connections were inspected, cleaned, and serviced to ensure dependable long-term performance.

• After electronic servicing was completed, the receiver was carefully cleaned inside and out while preserving its original vintage appearance.

After Restoration

• Following restoration, the Yamaha CR-2020 underwent comprehensive functional testing under real operating conditions.

• The amplifier, tuner, phono stage, AUX, Tape Monitor, speaker outputs, controls, protection circuitry, and all front-panel functions were thoroughly tested and verified for proper operation.

• Bias, DC offset, channel balance, power stability, and thermal performance were checked to ensure reliable long-term operation.

• Only after successfully passing HQaudios’ complete inspection and testing procedures was the Yamaha CR-2020 approved for its next owner.
