About This Deck

Up for sale is a professionally restored Pioneer CT-F1250, Pioneer’s flagship 3-head stereo cassette deck from the late 1970s / early 1980s era.

The CT-F1250 combines separate record and playback heads, quartz-PLL direct-drive capstan control, metal-tape capability, Dolby noise reduction, blue Fluroscan meters, and built-in bias / level calibration.

This unit has been given a custom red faceplate finish by HQaudios and includes the wood cabinet shown in the photos, giving it a distinctive custom appearance while preserving the original Pioneer engineering and controls.

The rear power label confirms AC 120V / 60Hz / 59W, making this unit suitable for standard U.S. mains power without an external step-down transformer.

Professional Restoration & Testing

Before Restoration

When this CT-F1250 arrived, we inspected the power supply, record/playback electronics, transport, motors, heads, controls, lamps, internal wiring, and cosmetic condition.

• Internal and external surfaces showed dust and age-related dirt
• Several lamps were burned out
• Input jacks, switches, and push-buttons showed oxidation and noise
• Drive belts had deteriorated and the transport was sluggish
• Heads and tape path required cleaning
• Exterior surfaces showed scratches and normal vintage wear
• The wood cabinet showed scratches and age-related wear
• Power-supply electrolytic capacitors were found aged and out of tolerance

During Restoration

• Electrolytic capacitors replaced as documented: 6 × 2200µF/63V, 10 × 47µF/50V, 10 × 220µF/50V, and 10 × 10µF/50V ELNA capacitors
• Drive belts replaced with new
• Transport mechanism cleaned, lubricated, serviced, and adjusted
• Burned-out dial and indicator lamps replaced
• Input jacks, switches, potentiometers, and push-buttons cleaned and treated
• Heads and tape path thoroughly cleaned; heads demagnetized
• Capstan and pinch roller cleaned and inspected
• Chassis, circuit boards, faceplate, and controls cleaned and detailed
• Wood cabinet cleaned and refinished
• Custom red faceplate finish applied by HQaudios

Sound & Operation

The CT-F1250 delivers the detailed, stable cassette performance expected from Pioneer’s flagship 3-head design. Separate record and playback heads allow off-tape monitoring, while the quartz-PLL direct-drive capstan system supports stable transport and low wow and flutter. Its calibration controls and metal-tape capability make it especially appealing for serious cassette recording and playback.

Cosmetic Condition

This Pioneer CT-F1250 is in Very Good restored vintage cosmetic condition. The custom red faceplate presents very well overall and gives the deck a distinctive appearance. Light cosmetic wear remains, including minor scratching on the Pitch Control knob and a small scratch / mark on the upper silver trim section, as shown in the close-up photos.
