Before Restoration
This JBL 4344 pair was inspected to evaluate its mechanical, electrical, driver, crossover, control, and cosmetic condition before restoration work was carried out.
The driver assemblies were inspected and resistance measurements were documented as part of the technical evaluation. Technical inspection photographs identify JBL 2235H, JBL 2121, JBL 2122H, JBL 2420, JBL 2421B, and JBL 2405 driver models within the documented service record for this pair.
The crossover networks, level-control assemblies, internal connections, cabinets, grilles, and driver surrounds were also inspected to determine the work required.
During Restoration
Based on the inspection findings, this JBL 4344 pair was restored according to HQaudios’ technical and cosmetic restoration process.
Cabinets: Exterior cabinet surfaces were re-veneered and refinished, with both cabinets restored together to achieve a consistent matched-pair appearance.
Front / Rear Surfaces: Front and rear surfaces were prepared and refinished to restore a clean and consistent presentation.
Level Controls: Level-control assemblies were removed for inspection and servicing. Contact surfaces were cleaned and the controls were checked for smooth operation.
Grilles: The speaker grilles were professionally recovered with new grille cloth.
Badges: The grille badges were reproduced and renewed.
Drivers: Woofer and midrange surrounds were professionally replaced. Driver cones were cleaned and cosmetically detailed, and terminals, connections, and mounting points were inspected before final assembly.
Driver Documentation: Technical inspection documentation identifies JBL 2235H low-frequency woofers, JBL 2121 / 2122H midrange models, JBL 2420 / 2421B compression driver models, and JBL 2405 16-ohm ultra-high-frequency drivers.
Crossovers: Both crossover networks were inspected and their electrical components and internal connections were evaluated. Internal wiring and contact points were inspected and secured where required.
Cleaning & Detailing: Drivers, crossover assemblies, terminals, cabinets, and grilles were cleaned and detailed before final reassembly.
After Restoration / Final Testing
After restoration and reassembly, the pair underwent functional testing under normal operating conditions.
Stereo Operation: Both speakers were operated together as a stereo pair to evaluate consistent left/right output and overall balance.
Controls & Switching: The front level controls were operated through their usable range and the rear internal / external crossover switching was checked during testing.
Driver Output: The documented low-frequency, midrange, high-frequency, and ultra-high-frequency driver sections were evaluated during the service and testing process.
Listening Test: The completed pair underwent a real-world listening test to evaluate overall output, tonal integration, dynamics, and stereo presentation.
Final QC: A final visual and functional inspection was completed before release.
