Up for sale is the JBL 4333B Professional Series Studio Monitor, offered here as a matching vintage pair with the classic walnut cabinet and dark blue grille presentation.

The 4333B is a large-format 3-way studio monitor built around the 15-inch JBL 2231H low-frequency driver, a 2420 compression driver coupled to the 2312 horn and 2308 acoustic lens, and the 2405 ultra-high-frequency transducer. The system uses the JBL 3133A network and can operate through its internal passive crossover or with external bi-amplification.

Designed for professional monitoring applications, the 4333B combines high sensitivity, wide bandwidth, strong dynamic capability, and the direct presentation associated with JBL’s classic large-format studio systems.

Sound Character

The JBL 4333B delivers the scale, immediacy, and dynamic authority expected from a classic large-format JBL studio monitor.

The 15-inch 2231H provides substantial low-frequency weight and impact, while the 2420 compression driver and horn/lens assembly reproduce the critical mid and upper ranges with strong projection and clarity. The 2405 adds dedicated ultra-high-frequency reproduction for additional extension and transient detail.

The result is a presentation that is powerful, open, and highly responsive, making the 4333B particularly engaging with rock, jazz, funk, fusion, vocals, orchestral recordings, and live material.

Cosmetic Condition

This pair is in Excellent vintage cosmetic condition with normal signs of age and previous use.

Please review all photos carefully, as they are part of the description.

  • Front Baffles: Clean classic JBL Professional Series presentation
  • Cabinet / Veneer: Attractive walnut-finished cabinets with normal vintage character
  • Grilles: Dark blue grille panels present cleanly overall
  • Acoustic Lenses / Drivers: Clean overall presentation with the original large-format monitor layout preserved
  • Rear Panel / Connections: Clean overall condition with internal crossover / external bi-amplification switching clearly marked

HQaudios Restoration & Testing Process

Before Restoration

The JBL 4333B pair was carefully inspected upon arrival to evaluate its overall mechanical, electrical, acoustic, and cosmetic condition.

Particular attention was given to the 2231H woofers, 2420 compression drivers, 2405 ultra-high-frequency transducers, 2312 horns, 2308 acoustic lenses, crossover networks, level controls, terminals, internal wiring, cabinet integrity, bass-reflex ports, and passive / bi-amp switching.

Driver continuity and DC resistance / Ohm readings were checked, and left/right measurements were compared to identify abnormal operation or inconsistencies before service work proceeded.

Crossover components, controls, connections, solder joints, and accessible electrical contact surfaces were also inspected for age-related deterioration, oxidation, or poor connection.

During Restoration

Based on the inspection results, this pair was restored according to HQaudios’ technical standards while preserving the original engineering and operating characteristics of the JBL 4333B.

The drivers, crossover networks, level controls, terminals, internal wiring, cabinets, horns, acoustic lenses, and passive / bi-amplification switching system were inspected and serviced.

Crossover capacitors and other age-sensitive components were evaluated for condition and electrical tolerance. Controls, terminals, and accessible contact surfaces were cleaned, while oxidized or contaminated electrical contact areas were treated to improve reliable connection.

Internal wiring and solder joints were checked for continuity and secure connection. Driver mounting hardware, cabinet structure, ports, horn assemblies, and acoustic lenses were inspected and carefully cleaned. Exterior cabinet surfaces were professionally detailed while preserving the authentic vintage character of the pair.

After Restoration

Once restoration was completed, this pair underwent comprehensive functional testing under real operating conditions.

Individual 2231H woofer operation, 2420 compression-driver output, 2405 ultra-high-frequency output, crossover integration, phase consistency, channel matching, level-control operation, terminals, and passive crossover operation were tested.

Driver DC resistance / Ohm readings were rechecked, and the pair was evaluated for left/right consistency and stable operation.

Finally, the pair underwent extended real-world listening tests to evaluate sound quality, operational stability, stereo balance, imaging, and overall performance.

Only after successfully meeting HQaudios’ restoration and testing standards was the JBL 4333B approved and prepared for its next owner.

Drivers, Horns, Crossovers & Cabinets

2231H 15-Inch Low-Frequency Driver

The 2231H forms the low-frequency foundation of th
e 4333B, combining a large 15-inch cone with a 4-inch edgewound copper-ribbon voice coil for high sensitivity and strong low-frequency output.

2420 Compression Driver, 2312 Horn & 2308 Acoustic Lens

The high-frequency section uses the JBL 2420 compression driver coupled to the 2312 horn and 2308 acoustic lens, providing the controlled projection and directivity associated with JBL’s professional monitor systems.

2405 Ultra-High-Frequency Transducer

The dedicated 2405 extends the upper range of the 4333B and contributes additional high-frequency detail and transient clarity.

3133A Network & Bi-Amplification

The 4333B uses the 3133A passive network with crossover points at 800 Hz and 8.5 kHz. The system can operate through its internal crossover or be configured for external bi-amplification.

These areas receive particular attention throughout HQaudios’ restoration and testing process. Additional close-up photos or videos are available upon request.
