HQaudios Restoration & Testing Process
Before Restoration
The Sansui G-801 was carefully inspected upon arrival to evaluate its overall mechanical, electrical, operational, and cosmetic condition.
Particular attention was given to the power supply, amplifier stages, protection circuitry, preamplifier section, tuner section, Balance control, switching network, Pre Out / Main In signal path, speaker outputs, RCA connections, meters, and illumination.
The service record documents an operating issue affecting the left channel / stereo function, together with issues observed around the Balance control and Pre Out / Main In signal path. These findings were used to determine the service work required for this specific unit.
During Restoration
Based on the inspection results, this unit was restored according to HQaudios’ technical standards while preserving the original engineering and operating characteristics of the receiver.
The power supply and amplifier circuitry received targeted service according to the documented condition of the unit.
The service documentation records replacement of multiple electrolytic capacitors, including documented values of:
- 47µF
- 100µF
- 220µF
- 470µF
The Balance control and Pre Out / Main In signal-path areas were inspected and serviced in response to the operating symptoms documented during evaluation.
Switches and control contacts were cleaned as documented, while the internal signal path, amplifier sections, and supporting circuitry were checked for reliable operation.
After the technical restoration was completed, the exterior was professionally cleaned and detailed while preserving the authentic vintage character of the Sansui G-801.
After Restoration
Once restoration was completed, this unit underwent comprehensive functional testing under real operating conditions.
Amplifier output, left/right channel operation, stereo function, channel balance, tuner reception, protection circuitry, inputs, outputs, Pre Out / Main In operation, speaker outputs, controls, switches, meters, and illumination were tested.
The receiver then underwent an extended real-world operational and listening test to evaluate channel stability, signal continuity, tonal balance, operational consistency, and overall sound performance.
Controls, Tuner & Connectivity
The G-801 provides a comprehensive analog control layout designed for flexible system matching and everyday use.
Its front panel includes three-band tone adjustment, selectable turnover frequencies, filtering options, Loudness, Audio Muting, tape monitoring, microphone mixing, speaker selection, and large illuminated meters.
The integrated tuner section features a large illuminated analog tuning scale with dedicated tuning and signal meters, while the rear panel provides multiple analog inputs and outputs for connecting turntables, tape decks, auxiliary sources, and external amplification components.
