About This Deck

Up for sale is a professionally restored Marantz 5220,
a classic 1970s stereo cassette deck designed to complement Marantz’s
vintage receiver lineup.

The 5220 features a 2-head transport, record/playback head, Dolby B noise reduction, Normal / CrO2 / FeCr tape selection, dual illuminated VU meters, and independent Mic / Line recording-level controls.

This particular unit features a custom black faceplate with contrasting gold lettering.
The black faceplate is a custom refinish applied by HQaudios; it is not the original factory finish.
A wood case is included as pictured.

electrical, operational, and cosmetic condition.

• Tape transport mechanism inspected
• Drive belts, counter belt, capstan, pinch roller, and idler system checked
• Super Hard Permalloy record/playback head and erase head inspected
• Motor speed stability evaluated
• Record / playback circuitry checked
• Sliders, switches, and accessible contacts inspected
• VU meter and cassette-compartment illumination checked

During Restoration

• Drive belts replaced
• Tape-counter belt replaced
• Transport linkages cleaned and re-lubricated
• Record/playback head, erase head, and tape path cleaned and demagnetized

Sound & Recording Character

The Marantz 5220 offers the smooth, full-bodied presentation associated with
vintage cassette playback and recording. Its Normal, CrO2, and FeCr tape settings,
Dolby B noise reduction, and independent recording-level controls make it suitable
for both playback and creating analog recordings.

Cosmetic Condition

This unit is presented in Very Good vintage cosmetic condition,
with normal age-related wear consistent with a restored vintage component.
