Why the JBL 4425 Stands Out
The JBL 4425 is a compact professional studio monitor from the mid-1980s, combining a 12-inch woofer with a compression driver and Bi-Radial horn. Its design delivers high sensitivity, controlled dispersion, strong bass output, and the direct presentation associated with classic JBL professional monitors.
HQaudios Restoration & Multi-Point Quality Control
Original Drivers Preserved • Fully Recapped • Woofers Refoamed • Fully Tested
| Before Restoration | The pair was inspected mechanically, electrically, acoustically, and cosmetically. Woofer cones, surrounds, spiders, compression drivers, horns, crossover networks, controls, and terminals were checked for condition and proper operation. Driver DC resistance was measured as a continuity and consistency check; these readings were not treated as nominal impedance values. |
| During Restoration | Both original JBL 2214H woofers were professionally refoamed, retaining the original cones, voice coils, frames, and motor structures. The original crossover/network boards were fully recapped with new capacitors while preserving the original JBL circuit architecture, inductors, resistors, and wiring layout. The original 2416H compression drivers, 2342 horns, Mid Frequency and High Frequency controls, and rear terminals were retained, cleaned, inspected, and serviced as required. The walnut cabinets and dark blue grilles were cleaned and detailed. |
| After Restoration | Frequency response was checked with an RTA and calibrated sound-card setup to confirm balanced operation and close consistency between the two speakers. Driver polarity was verified separately, and both level controls were checked through their operating ranges. The pair then underwent an extended listening test to confirm dynamics, tonal balance, stereo imaging, and operational stability. |

Listening Character
The JBL 4425 is known for a dynamic, direct presentation with strong bass authority and broad controlled dispersion. The 2214H woofer delivers punch and scale, while the 2416H / 2342 horn section provides clear, projecting mids and highs. It is especially well suited to jazz, rock, blues, vocals, live recordings, acoustic music, and studio-monitoring applications.
Actual Cosmetic Condition
This pair presents well overall for its age. The walnut cabinets, dark blue grilles, horns, drivers, corners, and rear panels have been cleaned and detailed while preserving their vintage character.
