Up for sale is a beautiful pair of JBL 4311 Control Monitor speakers, one of the most recognizable vintage studio-monitor designs from JBL’s legendary 43-series.
Originally developed as a compact professional monitoring system for recording studios, control rooms, adjustment rooms, and portable playback applications, the JBL 4311 combines classic JBL driver technology with a compact bass-reflex enclosure.

Sound Character
The JBL 4311 delivers the lively, direct, and highly articulate presentation that made classic JBL professional monitors so popular among recording engineers and music enthusiasts.
The large 12-inch woofer provides strong low-frequency impact and excellent dynamic scale, giving drums, bass guitar, electric guitar, and other rhythm instruments an immediate and energetic presentation.
The dedicated 5-inch midrange driver brings vocals, guitars, piano, horns, and other instruments forward with excellent clarity and presence.
The LE25 high-frequency driver provides clear and detailed treble reproduction while retaining the energetic character associated with vintage JBL monitors.
One of the defining features of the 4311 is its front-panel level controls. The midrange and high-frequency levels can be adjusted independently, allowing the listener to fine-tune the presentation according to room acoustics, placement, and personal listening preference.
The bass-reflex cabinet contributes to a full and dynamic low-frequency presentation while maintaining the compact dimensions of the 4311.
Overall, the JBL 4311 has a fast, energetic, forward, and engaging sound that works particularly well with rock, jazz, blues, vocal recordings, live music, and other program material where dynamics and presence are important.
Actual Condition
The speakers are in Very Good vintage cosmetic condition.
The cabinets may show normal signs of age such as light scratches, small marks, minor edge wear, or other cosmetic imperfections consistent with vintage use.
The front baffles, 12-inch woofers, midrange drivers, tweeters, level controls, grille assemblies, badges, and rear terminals are shown clearly in the photographs.
The natural aging and cosmetic differences expected from vintage JBL cabinets should be considered part of their character.
Please review all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the description and provide the most accurate representation of the actual pair being offered.
HQaudios Restoration & Testing Process
Before Restoration
Every vintage JBL loudspeaker requires careful inspection before any restoration work begins.
For each pair of JBL 4311 speakers, HQaudios paid particular attention to the condition of the 12-inch woofers, LE5-2 midrange drivers, LE25 tweeters, crossover networks, level controls, input terminals, cabinet structure, and grille assemblies.
Each driver was inspected for physical integrity, proper movement, abnormal noise, and consistent electrical behavior.
The midrange and high-frequency level controls are also checked carefully because these controls are an important part of the original 4311 design.
The crossover network, internal wiring, and input connections are inspected for signs of age, oxidation, loose connections, or other conditions that could affect reliability and sound quality.
During Restoration
Based on the initial inspection, each pair was serviced according to HQaudios’ technical standards with the goal of preserving the original engineering and characteristic sound of the JBL 4311.
The 12-inch woofers were tested for smooth operation, proper output, and abnormal mechanical noise.
The LE5-2 midrange drivers are individually tested to confirm consistent output and proper tonal balance.
The LE25 high-frequency drivers are inspected and tested to ensure clear and stable high-frequency reproduction.
The crossover network was checked for reliable operation and stable signal distribution between the three driver sections.
The midrange and high-frequency level controls are cleaned and verified for smooth adjustment and proper operation.
Input terminals and internal connections are cleaned and checked as part of the restoration process
Components identified as outside acceptable technical standards are addressed during service, followed by final operational testing to verify reliable performance
The cabinets, grilles, badges, and exterior surfaces are carefully cleaned and detailed to preserve the vintage JBL appearance.
After Restoration
After restoration is complete, each speaker underwent comprehensive functional testing under real operating conditions.
Both speakers are tested for full-range output, channel balance, driver operation, and proper response through the low-, mid-, and high-frequency sections.
The level controls are tested throughout their operating range to confirm proper adjustment.
The pair is then connected to a complete audio system for extended listening tests.
Several hours of listening are used to evaluate tonal balance, imaging, dynamics, bass response, midrange clarity, high-frequency performance, and long-term stability.
Only after successfully meeting HQaudios’ inspection and performance standards is this pair approved and prepared for its next owner.

Because these are vintage speakers, cosmetic condition, cabinet finish, grille condition, and individual component appearance may vary with age.
