Sound Character
The Concept 16.5 is legendary for its authoritative, high-headroom sound. Thanks to its dual-mono power supply and 165 watts per channel, it drives even demanding speakers with ease, delivering deep, tight, room-filling bass, a clean and open midrange, and effortless dynamics at any volume.
It has a reputation for waking up loudspeakers that other receivers cannot fully control, with a high damping factor that gives the bass excellent grip. It is an outstanding choice for vinyl playback, FM listening, and driving large vintage or modern speakers in a serious stereo system.
HQaudios Restoration & Testing Process
Each Concept 16.5 is inspected and serviced according to HQaudios’ technical standards, with the goal of preserving the original engineering and sound character that have made this flagship so highly respected.
Before Restoration
Before any work begins, the dual-mono power supply, both amplifier channels, the protection circuit, the AM/FM tuner section, the controls and switches, the meters and lamps, and the internal circuit boards are thoroughly inspected to accurately assess the operating condition of the receiver.
During Restoration
Based on the inspection, critical capacitors and out-of-spec components are replaced where necessary while preserving the original sonic character. The dual-mono power supply is serviced for stable operation, both amplifier channels are tested and calibrated, bias and DC offset are checked and adjusted to specification, the protection circuit is verified, the tuner is serviced for accurate AM/FM reception, and all switches and potentiometers are cleaned and treated for smooth, noise-free operation. The chassis and exterior are carefully cleaned and detailed.
After Restoration
After service, the receiver undergoes extended bench testing and real listening-condition testing to verify clean, stable stereo output at high power, proper tuner reception, and smooth control operation, then a final quality check before shipment. Only after meeting HQaudios’ inspection and performance standards is the unit approved and prepared for its next owner.
