PRODUCT OVERVIEW

The Infinity Kappa 8.1 is a 4-way floorstanding loudspeaker produced by Infinity from about 1992 to 1996. It combines a 12-inch IMG (injection-molded graphite) woofer, a 6.5-inch mid-bass driver, a 3-inch Polydome midrange and Infinity’s EMIT-R planar tweeter.

This pair has been inspected, serviced and tested by HQaudios. The photos show the actual pair you will receive.

HQAUDIOS RESTORATION & TESTING

Before Restoration

This Infinity Kappa 8.1 pair was carefully inspected upon arrival to evaluate its mechanical, electrical, and cosmetic condition.

Each cabinet, cone, surround, and spider was checked for originality and for glue joints that had loosened or shifted with age. Every driver was tested by hand for voice-coil rub – a scratching noise or a stiff, binding cone indicates a shifted or heat-damaged voice coil. The DC resistance of every driver was checked against its nominal impedance. The crossover networks were examined for bulging or leaking capacitors, each capacitor was measured against its original value (within 10% tolerance), and the wiring and terminals were inspected.

Inspection Findings: The drivers, crossovers and terminals were checked on both speakers, and the cabinets were inspected for cosmetic wear.

The inspection results were used to determine the work required for this specific pair.

During Restoration

Based on the inspection results, this Infinity Kappa 8.1 pair was serviced and refinished according to HQaudios’ technical standards while preserving its original engineering and voicing.

Drivers: All drivers retain their original cones and diaphragms, which are in good condition.

Cleaning & Detailing: The drivers, crossovers and terminals were cleaned, and the speakers were reassembled.

After Restoration / Final Testing

Once service was completed, the pair underwent comprehensive testing under real operating conditions.

Phase Check: Driver polarity was verified using a phase-reversal check to ensure both speakers play in correct phase.

Listening Test: The pair underwent an extended real-world listening test with a wide range of music to confirm output from every driver, tonal balance and stereo imaging.

Final QC: Only after completing HQaudios’ service and testing process was the pair approved and prepared for its next owner.
