PRODUCT OVERVIEW
The JBL 4344 is a large-format, four-way studio monitor developed as part of JBL’s professional monitor heritage. Introduced in the early 1980s as a successor to the 4343B, the 4344 combines a dedicated low-frequency woofer, separate mid-bass driver, horn-loaded high-frequency compression driver, and slot-type ultra-high-frequency transducer.
The four-way architecture distributes the audio spectrum across specialized driver sections. A 15-inch woofer provides the low-frequency foundation, while a dedicated 10-inch driver handles the mid-bass range. The horn-loaded compression driver and acoustic lens form the upper-midrange and high-frequency section, complemented by a separate ultra-high-frequency transducer. The mirror-imaged left and right cabinet layouts are a distinctive feature of this JBL studio monitor system.
This HQaudios pair features wood-grain cabinets, classic blue front baffles, dark blue grille assemblies, and the characteristic JBL 4344 driver arrangement. Before Restoration
During the initial inspection, we examined the exterior cabinet surfaces, driver assemblies, speaker connections, and accessible acoustic components of the JBL 4344 pair.
The inspection identified areas of cosmetic wear affecting the cabinet surfaces, including portions of the top, bottom, and side panels. The inspection also identified items requiring attention in the speaker assemblies and front adjustment controls.
During Restoration
Cabinet Inspection: We examined the front, rear, top, bottom, and side surfaces of both speaker cabinets for visible wear and defects.
Driver Inspection: We inspected the low-frequency, mid-bass, high-frequency, and ultra-high-frequency driver sections of the speaker system.
Speaker Connections: The rear connection areas, binding terminals, and accessible wiring sections were included in the inspection.
Level-Control Inspection: The front-panel driver adjustment controls were included in the functional inspection.
After Restoration / Final Testing
