This pair features 15-inch Altec 416A low-frequency drivers paired with a large sectoral high-frequency horn and compression-driver system. The Valencia was designed to bring much of Altec’s theater and professional loudspeaker engineering into a more furniture-friendly home speaker system.

HQaudios Restoration & Testing Process
Before Restoration
The Altec Lansing Valencia pair was carefully inspected upon arrival to evaluate its overall mechanical, electrical, acoustic, and cosmetic condition.
Particular attention was given to the 15-inch 416A woofers, voice coils, cone movement, high-frequency compression-driver sections, horn assemblies, crossover networks, terminals, internal wiring, enclosure integrity, bass-reflex openings, and driver mounting.
Driver continuity and DC resistance / Ohm readings were checked, and the inspection process was used to isolate abnormal operation, contact issues, oxidation, crossover deterioration, and other age-related problems before service work began.
The inspection results were used to determine the service work required for this specific pair.
During Restoration
Based on the inspection results, this pair was restored according to HQaudios’ technical standards while preserving the original engineering and operating characteristics of the Valencia.
The drivers, crossover networks, terminals, internal wiring, enclosure, horn assemblies, and model-specific acoustic components were inspected and serviced.
Crossover capacitors and other age-sensitive electrical components were evaluated, with degraded or out-of-tolerance components replaced as part of the restoration process. Oxidized or contaminated terminal and contact surfaces were cleaned and treated, while internal wiring and solder connections were checked for continuity and secure operation.
Driver mounting hardware, cabinet joints, bass-reflex openings, and accessible internal areas were inspected and secured. After the technical restoration was completed, the exterior was professionally cleaned and detailed while preserving the authentic vintage character of the Altec Lansing Valencia.
After Restoration
Once restoration was completed, this pair underwent comprehensive functional testing under real operating conditions.
Individual woofer and high-frequency driver operation, crossover integration, phase consistency, channel matching, terminal reliability, and overall acoustic balance were tested. Driver DC resistance / Ohm readings were rechecked after service.
Finally, the pair underwent extended real-world listening tests to evaluate sound quality, operational stability, stereo balance, horn/woofer integration, and overall performance.
Only after successfully meeting HQaudios’ restoration and testing standards was the Altec Lansing Valencia approved and prepared for its next owner.

The high-frequency section uses a large sectoral horn driven by a compression driver, providing the directness, projection, and transient response associated with classic Altec horn systems.
