PRODUCT OVERVIEW

The Infinity Reference Standard RS IIIB is a 3-way floorstanding loudspeaker produced by Infinity from 1982 to 1984.

Each speaker combines 10-inch polypropylene woofers with Infinity’s Polydome midrange and EMIT planar tweeter, crossed over at 600 Hz and 4 kHz.

This pair has been inspected, serviced, and tested by HQaudios, including new foam surrounds on all four woofers. The photos show the actual pair you will receive.

HQAUDIOS RESTORATION & TESTING

Before Restoration

This Infinity RS IIIB pair was carefully inspected upon arrival to evaluate its mechanical, electrical, and cosmetic condition.

Each cabinet, cone, surround, and spider was checked for originality and for glue joints that had loosened or shifted with age. Every driver was tested by hand for voice-coil rub – a scratching noise or a stiff, binding cone indicates a shifted or heat-damaged voice coil. The DC resistance of every driver was checked against its nominal impedance. The crossover networks were examined for bulging or leaking capacitors, each capacitor was measured against its original value (within 10% tolerance), and the wiring and terminals were inspected.

Inspection Findings: The foam surrounds on all four woofers (two per speaker) had to be replaced.

The inspection results were used to determine the work required for this specific pair.

During Restoration

Based on the inspection results, this Infinity RS IIIB pair was restored according to HQaudios’ technical standards while preserving its original engineering and voicing.

Woofers: New foam surrounds were fitted to all four woofers, two in each speaker.

Reassembly: The speakers were reassembled and tested after the woofer work.

Drivers: All drivers retain their original cones and diaphragms, which are in good condition.

Cleaning & Detailing: The drivers, crossover boards and terminals were cleaned, and the cabinets and grilles were cleaned and detailed.

After Restoration / Final Testing

Once restoration was completed, the pair underwent comprehensive testing under real operating conditions.

Phase Check: Driver polarity was verified using a phase-reversal check to ensure both speakers play in correct phase.

Listening Test: The pair underwent an extended real-world listening test with a wide range of music to confirm dynamics, tonal balance, and stereo imaging.

Final QC: Every pair must pass HQaudios’ final quality-control check before it is approved for sale.
